Gabon new coach Sébastien Migne names first squad for AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Sébastien Migne has announced his first squad as head coach of Gabon ahead of the opening two matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The French manager unveiled his 24-man squad on Thursday, September 17, as the Panthers prepare for two crucial fixtures in their bid to secure qualification for the continental tournament.

Migne, who has taken charge of the Gabon national team, will begin his competitive campaign with a difficult assignment against Morocco on September 25.

Gabon will travel to Morocco for their opening Group fixture, with Migne expected to rely on a mixture of experienced players and emerging talents as he begins his tenure.

The Panthers will then return home for their second qualifying match, hosting Niger in Libreville on September 29.

The encounter will be another important test for Migne and his players as they look to make a positive start to their qualification campaign and gather valuable points from the opening two matchdays.

For the two qualifiers, Migne has selected three goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders and seven forwards.

The squad includes several familiar names, with the coach handing opportunities to a number of players as he begins to shape his team ahead of the qualifiers.

Migne will now prepare his squad for the opening clash against Morocco before turning his attention to the home fixture against Niger four days later.

The two matches will offer the new Gabon coach his first opportunity to assess his players in competitive action while laying the foundation for his plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
