Al Ahly’s Aqtai Abdullah sidelined for a week with ankle injury
Al Ahly striker Aqtai Abdullah is expected to miss one week after suffering an ankle bruise during the club’s friendly victory over Laveena.
The forward, who recently joined Al Ahly, is currently following a rehabilitation programme as he works towards a return to the club’s full training sessions.
Abdullah sustained the injury during Al Ahly’s 7-1 win against Laveena in a pre-season friendly. The setback is understood to be limited to a bruise, but it will keep him out of action for around seven days.
The 1 August 2026 report said Abdullah was carrying out an individual rehabilitation programme, with the aim of rejoining his team-mates once he has recovered. No further details about the injury were provided.
Abdullah joined Al Ahly from Enppi, arriving alongside Ali Mahmoud. The pair were brought in as part of the club’s preparations for the new season.
Al Ahly have been using a series of friendly matches to build up their squad before competitive football resumes. Their victory against Laveena followed a 5-1 win over Al Nasr in their first pre-season fixture.
The Egyptian club are due to face Assiut Petroleum on Wednesday in their next friendly. They will then travel to Spain for an overseas training camp, which begins on 6 August.
The camp will include a high-profile meeting with Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August. The fixture will form part of Al Ahly’s preparations after their domestic pre-season schedule and will provide the club with another opportunity to assess their squad ahead of the new campaign.
For now, Abdullah’s focus is on completing his rehabilitation and returning to collective training. His one-week absence comes during a period in which Al Ahly are managing their squad through several preparation matches before their departure for Spain.
Al Ahly’s two opening friendlies produced 12 goals, with the side scoring seven against Laveena after beating Al Nasr by five goals. Their meeting with Assiut Petroleum on Wednesday will be the final confirmed friendly mentioned before the team travels to Spain.
The club’s Spanish camp will start on 6 August, while the match against Barcelona is scheduled for 19 August as part of the Joan Gamper Trophy.
