PSG weighing move for Guela Doue as Strasbourg face pressure to sell

Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring RC Strasbourg defender Guela Doue as the Alsace club seeks to raise funds after being fined 13 million euros by UEFA.

The financial penalty has left Strasbourg needing to rebalance their accounts, a situation that is expected to force the club to part with several established players during the transfer window. Guela Doue is among the members of the squad attracting significant interest, with Paris Saint-Germain understood to be following the Ivory Coast international closely, according to L’Equipe.

Doue has been an important part of Strasbourg’s team over the past two seasons and enjoyed a strong campaign for the club. The 23-year-old made 34 appearances, scoring two goals and providing seven assists.

A move to the French capital would offer Doue the chance to play alongside his younger brother, Desire, who is already part of the Paris Saint-Germain squad. The potential transfer would also give him a role within Luis Enrique’s squad as cover for Achraf Hakimi at right-back.

However, there is no certainty that the proposed move will develop into a formal transfer. Paris Saint-Germain have not yet begun concrete negotiations for Doue, while the club already has players capable of filling in at right-back when required.

Warren Zaire-Emery and Joao Neves are both considered internal options for that position, meaning Paris Saint-Germain could decide that an additional signing is not essential. Those alternatives may therefore affect the club’s willingness to make an approach for the Strasbourg defender.

Doue’s performances have nevertheless made him one of the players most likely to attract attention as Strasbourg respond to their financial difficulties. His versatility and contribution in the final third, reflected in his seven assists last season, have helped establish him as a key member of the squad.

The defender is valued at 20 million euros. His annual salary is reported to be 900,000 euros, equivalent to 585,000,000 FCFA.

Doue’s current spell in Alsace is due to continue until 2029. Any decision by Strasbourg to sell him would therefore represent a significant move involving a player who remains under contract for several more seasons.

For now, Paris Saint-Germain’s interest remains at the monitoring stage rather than a completed negotiation. The club must weigh the possibility of bringing Guela Doue in to provide competition and cover for Achraf Hakimi against the existing options already available within its squad.
