Barcelona turn to Jesse Bisiwu as Belgian winger signs from Club Brugge

Barcelona have completed the permanent signing of 18-year-old Belgian winger Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge, with the teenager committing his future to the Catalan club until 30 June 2031.

The deal was announced by Barcelona on Friday through the club’s official website. Bisiwu is expected to be formally presented at the club’s headquarters in the coming period.

Born on 22 January 2008 to a family of Ghanaian heritage, Bisiwu has established himself as one of Belgium’s most promising young players. He is known for his pace, strength and ability to beat opponents in one-on-one situations, and has represented Belgium regularly at youth international level.

His performances at the 2025 European Under-17 Championship attracted particular attention. Bisiwu helped Belgium reach the semi-finals of the tournament and was also selected in its team of the tournament.

Bisiwu began his football education at Leuven in 2014 and remained there until 2020. He then moved to the Club Brugge academy, where he has spent the past six years developing through the Belgian club’s youth system.

The winger has also gained experience in European competition. Over the past two seasons, he played in the UEFA Youth League, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals.

Despite being only 15 when he first featured for the senior side, Bisiwu has also played for Club NXT, Club Brugge’s reserve team, in the Belgian second tier. Since 2023, he has made 36 appearances for the side.

His move means Bisiwu becomes the third Belgian player to join Barcelona’s first team, following Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Govaerts.

Barcelona’s decision to secure the teenager on a long-term contract highlights the club’s continued focus on developing young talent. Bisiwu arrives with experience of senior football in Belgium, as well as a growing international reputation after his influential showing at the Under-17 European Championship.

The club has not yet confirmed the date of his presentation, but says the event will take place at its headquarters in the near future.
