Frank Magri on OGC Nice radar as free agent striker weighs next move

OGC Nice are exploring a move for out-of-contract forward Frank Magri as they look to strengthen their attack on a limited budget.

The 26-year-old Cameroon international is a free agent after his contract with Toulouse expired at the end of last season, and Foot Mercato reports that Nice have made the striker a priority target in their search for low-cost reinforcements.

Nice, who are working under tight financial constraints in the current transfer window, see Magri as an opportunity to add power and finishing ability to their forward line without paying a transfer fee. Talks are said to be at an advanced stage and a decision on his future is expected in the coming days.

Injury-hit season but profile appeals

Magri’s 2023-24 Ligue 1 campaign was disrupted by a series of injuries, restricting him to just 17 league appearances for Toulouse. Despite that stop-start season, he still managed to score five goals and provide one assist.

That output, combined with his physical presence and direct playing style, has convinced Nice that he could offer valuable depth and competition in attack next season, particularly given the scarcity of proven forwards available on free transfers.

The club’s recruitment team are focusing on cost-effective deals this summer, and Magri fits that strategy as a player with top-flight experience who can be signed without a transfer outlay.

Wages and market value

During his time at Toulouse, Franck Magri earned an annual salary of €500,000, the equivalent of 325,000,000 CFA francs.

His current market value is estimated at €3m by specialist website Transfermarkt, underlining the potential upside for Nice if they can secure his signature on a free.

Nice have not commented publicly on the negotiations, but with discussions progressing and Magri still without a club, his future is expected to be resolved shortly.
