Cape Verde new coach Bettencourt name squad for Mali, Rwanda AFCON 2027 qualifiers
Cape Verde head coach Humberto Bettencourt has announced a 26-man squad for the opening two matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Blue Sharks have maintained the core of the squad that helped the country make history at the last FIFA World Cup, with only two new faces included in the latest selection.
Ayoni Santos and Jose Tavares are the newcomers to the squad as Bettencourt prepares his side for a demanding start to the qualifying campaign.
Cape Verde will open their Group campaign away against Mali on September 25 before returning home to face Rwanda four days later on September 29.
Bettencourt has opted for continuity, retaining several experienced players who have played important roles for the national team in recent years.
The Blue Sharks will be aiming to make a strong start to their bid for qualification, beginning with a difficult trip to Mali before welcoming Rwanda in their second fixture.
