Pirates treble triumph reflected in sweeping success at PSL awards

Orlando Pirates’ domestic treble was emphatically endorsed at the 2026-27 Premier Soccer League awards, as the Soweto club claimed the lion’s share of the major honours, including a standout triple haul for teenager Relebohile Mofokeng.

The Buccaneers, who secured the Betway Premiership, MTN8 and Carling Knockout titles in a dominant campaign, translated that supremacy into individual recognition across the board, with players and head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou rewarded for their roles in a season of sustained control.

Mofokeng was the central figure on the night, collecting three of the most prestigious awards on offer. The 19-year-old playmaker was named PSL Footballer of the Season, Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season, underlining his status as the league’s outstanding performer and most influential emerging talent.

Ouaddou’s impact in the dugout was also formally recognised. The Orlando Pirates coach, who steered the team to the league title as part of their domestic clean sweep, received the Betway Premiership Coach of the Season award.

Pirates’ dominance extended across the positional categories in the Premiership. Goalkeeper Sipho Chaine was voted Goalkeeper of the Season, while Lebone Seema took Defender of the Season after anchoring the Buccaneers’ back line. In midfield, Oswin Appollis was acknowledged as Betway Premiership Midfielder of the Season, completing a clean sweep of the league’s core outfield awards for the club.

Cup specialists recognised

The club’s cup exploits were also highlighted. In the MTN8, attacker Tshepang Moremi was named MTN8 Last Man Standing, the award given to the competition’s best player. In the Carling Knockout, defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi earned the Player of the Tournament accolade after helping Pirates add a third trophy to their collection.

Away from Pirates’ dominance, the Nedbank Cup honours went to players from outside the treble winners’ camp. Durban City goalkeeper Darren Keet was named Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament for his performances in the knockout competition, while TS Galaxy’s Seluleko Mahlambi was voted Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

Cape Town City sweep Motsepe Foundation Championship prizes

In the Motsepe Foundation Championship categories, Cape Town City completed a clean sweep of the player awards.

Emile Witbooi secured the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player of the Season prize, reflecting the esteem in which he is held by his fellow professionals. Team-mate Gabriel Amato was named Motsepe Foundation Championship Young Player of the Season, recognising his emergence over the course of the campaign.

The Cape Town club also produced the division’s top goalkeeper, with Mickey Van Der Hart receiving the Motsepe Foundation Championship Goalkeeper of the Season award.

Youth, officials also honoured

Development football and officiating were likewise acknowledged by the league.

Mamelodi Sundowns prospect Bennet Mokoena was named DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season, highlighting his progress in the reserve league and marking him out as one to watch for the future.

In the match officials’ categories, Euguene Mdluli was honoured as PSL Referee of the Year, while Nandipha Menze took the PSL Assistant Referee of the Season award, recognising their consistency and performance standards across the campaign.
