Al-Hilal consider fresh January approach for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes

Al-Hilal are preparing a €55m (£45m) bid for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes in January, according to a report from Italian website Tutto Mercato Web.

The Saudi Pro League club are expected to try again to sign the Portugal midfielder after Fernandes rejected approaches from them last year.

The reported interest comes amid claims that renewal negotiations between Fernandes and Manchester United have stalled. His current contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2027.

Fernandes previously turned down an attractive offer because he wanted to continue competing at the highest level. However, he later admitted he had felt Manchester United would have agreed to his departure.

“That hurts me a little,” Fernandes said.

The 32-year-old remains a central figure at Manchester United, where he is captain, but the club’s difficulties and the uncertainty over his long-term future could make January an important point in deciding what happens next.

Milan are also understood to be monitoring Fernandes’ situation. The midfielder has recently held frank discussions with manager Michael Carrick, although no further details of those conversations were provided.

Despite the growing speculation, there has been no confirmation of a formal offer from Al-Hilal or any other club. Reports surrounding the midfielder have increased as his contract moves closer to its final year.

Al-Hilal’s reported interest would represent another attempt to take Fernandes to the Saudi Pro League, but any move would depend on Manchester United’s position and the player’s preference over his future.

For now, Fernandes remains at Old Trafford and under contract until 2027. The possibility of a €55m proposal in January, however, could place renewed focus on his situation during the winter transfer window.
