Khusainov signs new Manchester City deal running to 2031

Abdukodir Khusainov has committed his long-term future to Manchester City after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The Uzbekistan international, 22, agreed fresh terms following a season and a half at the Etihad Stadium, having joined the Premier League champions in January 2025.

Khusainov originally arrived from Lens on a deal running to 2029 but his progress in Manchester has persuaded City to extend his stay by a further two years.

Since moving to England, the midfielder has made 37 appearances under former manager Pep Guardiola and was part of the squads that lifted both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

“This is a great day for me and my family, I am extremely happy to extend my contract at Manchester City,” Khusainov told the club’s official website.

“I have enjoyed every moment since I arrived in Manchester, and I feel that I am developing and learning a lot as a player,” he added.

New challenge under Maresca

Khusainov will now work under Enzo Maresca, who took over as Manchester City head coach after Guardiola left at the end of last season.

Outlining his next objectives at the club, Khusainov said: “I now have a new challenge, which is to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff, and to secure my place in the starting line-up on a regular basis. I am determined to achieve that.”

He also paid tribute to the City support for helping him settle both in the country and in the Premier League.

“Thank you to the City fans for your continuous support. Your support was extremely important during my settling-in period in England and the Premier League,” he said.

“Now, I am only looking forward. I am ready to give my utmost to help this club achieve as much success as possible.”

Impact for club and country

As well as establishing himself at club level, Khusainov has become a key figure for the Uzbekistan national team.

The midfielder played a role in helping his country qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the first time Uzbekistan have ever reached the tournament.

City’s upcoming fixtures

Manchester City are currently preparing for the new domestic campaign, with two fixtures already confirmed as the curtain-raisers to Enzo Maresca’s tenure.

City will face Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on 16 August, a week before the Premier League season begins.

They then start their league campaign on 23 August, when they meet Bournemouth in their opening Premier League fixture.
