Ghanaian forward Afena-Gyan joins Turkish side Iğdır FK on permanent deal after leaving Cremonese

Ghanaian forward Felix Afena-Gyan has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish club Iğdır FK from Italian side Cremonese, ending his three-year stay with the Serie B outfit.

The 22-year-old officially signed a two-year contract on Thursday following an impressive loan spell with Turkish side Amedspor during the 2025/26 season.

Afena-Gyan enjoyed one of the best campaigns of his professional career in Turkey, scoring five goals and providing six assists to help Amedspor secure promotion to the Turkish Super Lig.

His outstanding performances attracted interest from several clubs, but Iğdır FK ultimately won the race for his signature.

The Ghana international first rose to prominence at AS Roma under the guidance of former manager Jose Mourinho, earning widespread attention with a series of impressive displays before sealing a €7.5 million move to Cremonese in 2022.

However, he found regular playing opportunities difficult to come by in Italy, and his loan move to Amedspor proved to be a turning point, allowing him to rediscover his form and confidence.

Despite his strong performances in Turkey, Afena-Gyan was left out of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz selecting other attacking options for the tournament.

His move to Iğdır FK presents another opportunity to continue his resurgence in Turkish football as he aims to build on last season’s success and strengthen his case for a return to the Black Stars ahead of future international competitions.
