Garnacho seals loan move as Aston Villa agree £50m option with Chelsea

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea, in a deal that includes a €50m (£42.4m) purchase option that could become an obligation if specific conditions are met.

French newspaper L’Equipe reports that Villa’s option to buy will automatically be triggered once the 22-year-old makes a certain number of appearances for the club this season.

Should that clause be activated, Garnacho is expected to sign a four-year permanent contract at Villa Park.

The move is designed to strengthen Unai Emery’s attacking options, with Villa viewing the former Manchester United winger as a major addition to their forward line.

From Manchester United prospect to Chelsea

Garnacho came through the ranks at Manchester United, progressing from the youth system to make his senior debut for the club in 2022.

After breaking into the first team at Old Trafford, he left United for Chelsea in the summer of 2025. Aston Villa were also interested in signing him at that time but lost out to the London club.

Since moving to Stamford Bridge, Garnacho has made 43 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.

However, he has been unable to secure a regular starting role, prompting Chelsea to agree to a loan departure that keeps open the prospect of a substantial permanent sale.

Villa reshape attack after record Chelsea deal

Garnacho’s arrival is part of a wider reconfiguration of Aston Villa’s attacking options following significant recent transfer activity between the Midlands club and Chelsea.

Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi has recently come in to replace Morgan Rogers, who left Villa for Chelsea in what has been described as a record-breaking deal for the club.

Villa now hope Garnacho can provide the extra cutting edge in the final third to complement those changes, with the Argentine expected to compete immediately for a place in Emery’s forward line.

While the precise number of appearances required to trigger the €50m obligation has not been disclosed, the structure of the agreement underlines Villa’s long-term interest in Garnacho, having tracked him since his time at Manchester United.

Garnacho, who has already experienced two of England’s biggest clubs in Manchester United and Chelsea, will now look to relaunch his Premier League career in Birmingham, with his future potentially tied to Aston Villa until the end of the decade if the option to buy is activated.
