Real Madrid unveil green away kit as Mourinho prepares for second spell
Real Madrid have revived their striking green away colours for the first time in more than a decade as the club begins a new era under returning manager Jose Mourinho.
The Spanish giants and kit supplier Adidas have launched the club’s 2026-27 away jersey, with the shirt set to feature prominently during pre-season and throughout the upcoming campaign.
Subtle geometric design and modern collar
Adidas confirmed the release of the new strip on Thursday, describing it as more than just a change of colour.
According to the club’s official website, “يتميز القميص بنقشة هندسية دقيقة تحمل الاحرف الاولى من اسم النادي، ويتضمن ياقة عصرية بحواف بيضاء فاتحة” – a design that incorporates a fine geometric pattern built around the initials of Real Madrid, complemented by a contemporary collar with light white edging.
Promotional material shared on social media by the club and the manufacturer framed the launch with the line:
“more than a jersey. a legacy worn. 🤍✨

The new kit restores a distinctive green palette that has been largely absent from the club’s wardrobe in recent seasons.
First dark green strip since 2012-13
The colour choice marks the first time since the 2012-13 campaign that Real Madrid will wear a dark green shirt. On that occasion, the green kit was used as a third-choice option behind the traditional white home strip and the primary away colours.
Real Madrid also used a lighter shade of green during the 2019-20 season, but that shirt featured a markedly softer tone compared with the deeper hue now reintroduced for 2026-27.
A second round of launch content mirrored the original slogan, with the club highlighting both the historic resonance and the fresh look of the design:

The release continues Adidas’s strategy of combining heritage elements – such as club initials woven into the fabric – with modern tailoring and lifestyle-focused marketing.
Pre-season schedule confirmed
The shirt is expected to debut during Real Madrid’s upcoming pre-season fixtures as the club builds towards the new La Liga campaign.
Carlo Ancelotti’s successors will begin preparations with two friendlies in August. Real Madrid are set to face Italian side Fiorentina on 1 August, a match likely to give supporters an early glimpse of the new green away strip in action.
A second warm-up game follows on 12 August against Deportivo La Coruna, who have returned to the Spanish top flight after a spell outside the elite. The fixture will offer another opportunity for Mourinho to test his squad and integrate any new signings ahead of competitive action.
Mourinho’s second era starts against Espanyol
Real Madrid’s league season will start under the spotlight, with Mourinho beginning his second spell in charge of the club.
The Portuguese coach, who previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, is set to open his new tenure with a league fixture against Espanyol on 22 August.
With a high-profile coach back at the helm, a refreshed squad, and a bold away kit that nods to the club’s recent past, Real Madrid are positioning the 2026-27 campaign as the start of a renewed push for domestic and European success – dressed once again in green.
