Somerville ‘set for’ Al Hilal in €65m deal as Saudi club move for West Ham winger

Al Hilal are closing in on the signing of Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United in a deal worth around €65m, according to a well-connected Saudi journalist – significantly lower than figures widely reported in recent days.

Fee ‘not €80m’, Saudi reporter says

Local media had claimed the Riyadh giants were preparing to pay €80m for Summerville in the current summer transfer window, a move that would have made him the second most expensive player in Saudi Pro League history.

However, Saudi journalist Hamad Al-Sweilem has publicly dismissed those numbers.

He wrote on X: “عرض الهلال لنادي وست هام الانجليزي بلغ حوالي 65 مليون يورو، فيما تم تقديم عرض مقابل 12 مليون يورو سنويا للاعب”.

Translated, Al-Sweilem says Al Hilal’s bid to West Ham is “about €65m”, with a proposed salary of €12m per year for the Dutch international.

Medical completed and long-term contract expected

Al-Sweilem had earlier revealed that Summerville has already undergone medical tests requested by Al Hilal in the last few hours, following the player’s approval of the move.

The 24-year-old is now expected to sign a long-term contract with the Saudi champions in the coming hours, before the transfer is officially announced.

If completed, the deal would further underline the Saudi Pro League’s strategy of targeting prime-age European-based talent, rather than only high-profile veterans nearing the end of their careers.

World Cup breakout with the Netherlands

Summerville’s reputation rose sharply at the 2026 World Cup, where he impressed for the Netherlands despite not being a regular starter in every match.

Featuring predominantly from the flanks, he scored two goals and provided two assists during the tournament, helping the Dutch side with his direct running and creativity in the final third.

His World Cup performances appear to have accelerated interest from major clubs, with Al Hilal now poised to secure his signature.

Key role at West Ham last season

Away from international duty, Summerville delivered a solid campaign with West Ham United last season.

He made 34 appearances for the Premier League side, scoring seven goals and contributing five assists in all competitions. His output and versatility made him one of the more influential attacking options in the squad.

Summerville operates primarily as a left winger, where he can cut inside onto his stronger foot, but he is also capable of playing on the right flank. He has additionally been used, though less frequently, as a central striker and an attacking midfielder.
