Amouta to finalise Al Ahly squad on eve of Spanish training camp

Morocco’s Hussein Amouta will confirm Al Ahly’s squad for the new season just 24 hours before the club departs for a pre-season training camp in Spain, FilGoal.com has learned.

The new head coach, appointed on a two-year deal starting from the coming campaign, is expected to use the remaining weeks before the 6 August departure to take crucial decisions on which players will stay, who will be registered and who will be moved on.

Late call on squad selection

According to information obtained by FilGoal.com, Amouta has decided that the final list of players for the 2026-27 season will be settled the day before the team flies out to Spain.

Al Ahly’s camp is scheduled to begin on 6 August and will serve as the main phase of preparations for domestic and continental competitions in the new campaign.

The timing of the decision means players on the fringes of the squad will be competing for their futures at the club right up to the last moment before the trip.

New signings already secured

Despite the late confirmation of the full list, Al Ahly have been active in the transfer market and have already sealed three summer signings.

The Cairo giants have brought in two players from Enppi: Aktai Abdallah and Ali Mahmoud. Both are expected to add depth and competition in key positions as Amouta reshapes the squad.

The club have also moved to strengthen their attacking options by signing Moroccan forward Sofiane Benjdida from Maghreb Fes. The striker is seen as part of a broader plan to refresh the frontline and offer different tactical possibilities under the new coach.

Algerian striker deal close

Al Ahly are also nearing an agreement to sign Algerian striker Moncef Bakrar from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.

The negotiations are understood to be in their final stages, with the deal expected to be completed in time for the player to join up with the team ahead of, or during, the Spanish camp.

Securing Bakrar would further underline the club’s intention to reinforce its attack and ensure greater depth across competitions in the coming season.

New era under Amouta

Amouta’s arrival marks the beginning of a new era for the record African champions, with the Spanish camp set to offer the first clear glimpse of his methods and preferred line-up.

By delaying the final squad announcement until just before departure, the Moroccan coach is giving himself maximum time to assess existing players alongside the new recruits.

Al Ahly’s management will be hoping that the blend of fresh signings and established stars, guided by Amouta’s experience, will position the club for renewed success at home and in Africa over the next two years.
