Aston Villa agree deal to sign Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on loan

Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho on loan, with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Loan move with mandatory purchase clause

Romano, a journalist specialising in transfer news, reported that Villa and Chelsea have finalised terms for Garnacho to move to Villa Park during the current summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old is set to join Unai Emery’s side initially on loan. However, the deal includes a purchase clause that will automatically become mandatory once specific performance-related conditions are fulfilled. The exact details of those conditions have not yet been disclosed.

A medical has already been scheduled, Romano added, paving the way for the transfer to be completed and officially announced in the coming hours.

Emery’s personal priority target

Romano said that Villa’s push for Garnacho has been strongly driven by head coach Unai Emery, who identified the winger as a key reinforcement ahead of the new season.

He reported that Emery placed Garnacho “على راس اولوياته” – at the top of his list of transfer priorities – as he looks to strengthen his attacking options before the Premier League campaign gets under way.

The move underlines Villa’s intent to build on recent progress under Emery by adding young, high-potential players with experience at the highest level.

Garnacho’s Chelsea spell

Garnacho joined Chelsea in the summer of 2025 from Manchester United, signing a long-term contract with the west London club running until 2032.

Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, he has made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.

The Argentina international, known for his direct running and ability to operate on either flank, has been viewed as one of the brightest young attacking talents in Europe. However, strong competition for places at Chelsea has limited his opportunities to secure a guaranteed starting role.

Key step in Villa’s summer rebuild

If the deal is finalised as expected, Garnacho will become one of the headline signings of Villa’s summer window, giving Emery additional pace and creativity in wide areas.

The structure of the agreement – a loan with an obligation to buy dependent on conditions – offers Villa flexibility in the short term while potentially committing them to a significant long-term investment if Garnacho meets the agreed triggers.

Chelsea, meanwhile, would secure a pathway to a permanent transfer for a player tied to the club until 2032, potentially easing squad congestion and creating room for further business in the market.

An official announcement from both clubs is anticipated once Garnacho completes his medical and the final documents are signed.
