Moïne Chaâbani set to take charge of Tunisia after World Cup coaching changes

Tunisia are set to appoint Moïne Chaâbani as the new head coach of the senior national team as the Carthage Eagles begin preparations for the next phase of their football project.

The Tunisian Football Federation has moved quickly to fill the vacant position after a period of uncertainty following the departure of Sabri Lamouchi, who was dismissed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Tunisia suffered defeat in their opening match of the tournament.

Lamouchi’s exit paved the way for experienced French coach Hervé Renard to take over on a short-term basis, with the two-time Africa Cup of Nations-winning manager brought in to guide the team through the remainder of their World Cup campaign.

However, after Tunisia’s elimination from the competition, Renard has stepped away from the role, leaving the federation searching for a permanent solution.

Chaâbani has emerged as the preferred candidate and is expected to be officially confirmed as Tunisia’s new head coach in the coming days.

The 43-year-old coach arrives with strong credentials, having recently guided Moroccan club RS Berkane to a second-place finish in the Moroccan Premier League. His work with the club has strengthened his reputation as one of North Africa’s promising young coaches.

Chaâbani is no stranger to success, having previously enjoyed a successful spell with Tunisian giants Espérance de Tunis, where he won domestic honours and continental glory, including the CAF Champions League title.

His expected appointment represents a return to familiar territory and a new chapter for the Tunisian national team, who will be hoping he can restore stability and build a competitive side capable of challenging on the continental and global stage.

The Carthage Eagles are now looking ahead to rebuilding after a disappointing World Cup campaign, with Chaâbani expected to oversee the transition and prepare the team for upcoming international commitments.
