Henry Onyekuru walks away from Genclerbirligi with €940k settlement after contract fallout
Turkish Super Lig club Genclerbirligi have parted ways with Super Eagles winger Henry Onyekuru after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The decision was reached following talks between the club and the player’s representatives, bringing an early end to the Nigerian forward’s time with the Red and Blacks.
According to reports, the settlement package agreed between both parties is worth €940,000, covering outstanding financial obligations and compensation for the remaining duration of his deal.
The amount includes €240,000 in unpaid wages from last season, while a further €700,000 represents compensation for the remainder of his contract. The payment is expected to be completed in instalments over a six-month period.
Onyekuru’s expected €1.6m salary cut short
Onyekuru was set to earn €1.6 million during the upcoming season before the termination agreement was reached.
The 29-year-old winger joined Genclerbirligi on a free transfer last summer after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Fayha, with expectations that his experience and attacking ability would strengthen the Turkish club’s squad.
However, his stay in Ankara lasted only one season, with the former Everton and Galatasaray player making 17 league appearances before his exit was confirmed.
The departure adds another chapter to Onyekuru’s career, which has seen him feature across several leagues in Europe and the Middle East.
Super Eagles winger searches for next move
Onyekuru, who has earned international recognition with Nigeria, now becomes available as he looks for his next challenge.
The winger previously enjoyed a successful spell at Galatasaray, where he won domestic honours and became a fan favourite, but recent seasons have been marked by frequent moves between clubs.
