Jacob Mendy: Gambian-Spanish left-back joins Bromley on free transfer from Peterborough
Bromley have signed Gambian-Spanish defender Jacob Mendy on a free transfer from League One rivals Peterborough. The 29-year-old left-back, who is left-footed and stands at 1.82m, has joined ahead of the new campaign after leaving Peterborough at the end of last season.
Mendy arrives with extensive experience across the English pyramid, having featured in the National League, League Two and League One. He has made more than 190 league appearances in English football, including 115 games in the National League and 31 in League Two, contributing 24 goals across those three divisions. He has also played in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.
Born in Faji Kunda on 27 December 1996, Mendy represents both The Gambia and Spain at nationality level and has spent the bulk of his senior career in English football. His move to Bromley follows a spell with Peterborough that began with a loan switch from Wrexham in September 2025 before that deal was made permanent in February 2026.
Before joining Peterborough, Mendy played a key role for Wrexham after moving there from Boreham Wood in 2022, having previously impressed in the National League with Boreham Wood and earlier with Wealdstone. His rise has also taken in stints at Carshalton Athletic and Redhill following his time in Spanish football with Atletico Madrid C and Puerta Bonita.
Mendy, who has joined with a current market value of 125,000, becomes Bromleys latest defensive recruit as he completes his free transfer switch from Peterborough.
