Simon Banza: Nice linked with move for Al-Jazira and DR Congo striker

Nice are being linked with a move for DR Congo-French centre-forward Simon Banza, who currently plays for Al-Jazira in the UAE Pro League.

Banza, 29, joined Al-Jazira from Portuguese side SC Braga in September 2025 and is valued at around 10m, having seen his market value adjusted in May 2026. He wears the No 9 shirt for the Abu Dhabi club and is viewed as a potential addition to bolster Nices attacking options in Ligue 1.

The right-footed striker has built his reputation in European football over recent seasons, particularly in Portugal with FC Famalicao and Braga. His value climbed steadily during his time in the Primeira Liga, peaking while at Braga and remaining in eight-figure territory following his move to the UAE.

Before moving abroad, Banza came through the ranks at RC Lens in France and went on to feature for the first team, giving him prior experience of French football that would be relevant to any return to Ligue 1. He later had a productive spell on loan at Famalicao, which paved the way for a permanent move to Portugal and then to Braga.

Banzas profile as a 1.89m central striker, with experience in France, Portugal, Turkiye and the UAE, makes him an established option for clubs seeking a physical presence in attack. His dual DR Congo and French nationality also adds flexibility in terms of squad registration rules in different leagues.

No agreement has been reached between Al-Jazira and Nice, and the rumour remains at an early stage, with the player still on the books of the UAE Pro League side.
