Danel Dongmo: Nacional sign Cameroon midfielder on free transfer from Petrolul Ploiesti

CD Nacional have signed Cameroon central midfielder Danel Dongmo from Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti on a free transfer. The 25-year-old moves to the Portuguese club with a current market value of 450,000.

Dongmo, a left-footed central midfielder, joins Nacional after a single season in Romanias SuperLiga with Petrolul. His value rose steadily during his time in Eastern Europe, climbing from 150,000 at Vardar Skopje to 300,000 and then 450,000 while at Petrolul, underlining his development over the past two campaigns.

Born in Douala on 31 January 2001, the 1.82m midfielder brings experience from several European leagues despite his relatively young age. Before his spell in Romania, he played in North Macedonia for Vardar Skopje, having arrived there in July 2024 from the B team of French club ESTAC Troyes.

Dongmos progression through the Troyes system, from the U19s into the B team, followed his move to Europe from Brasseries du Cameroun in 2018. That pathway has taken him from youth football in Cameroon to senior roles in France, North Macedonia, Romania and now Portugals top flight.

Nacional add a player whose value has quadrupled since 2022, when he was first listed at 100,000 with Troyes reserve side, reflecting consistent upward momentum in his career.

The move places Dongmo in Liga Portugal for the 2026-27 season as he begins the next stage of his development with the Madeira-based club.
