Rafik Belghali emerges as a leading Fiorentina transfer target

Algerian international Rafik Belghali is emerging as one of the most sought-after defenders in Serie A, with Fiorentina reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign the versatile full-back from Hellas Verona.

The 23-year-old has attracted widespread attention despite Verona’s relegation to Serie B. His performances throughout the season have impressed several clubs across Italy, with Fiorentina now regarded as one of the strongest contenders for his signature ahead of the new campaign.

The Viola are understood to be prioritising reinforcements on the right side of their defence and believe Belghali possesses the qualities required to strengthen the squad.

According to reports from Italy, Fiorentina’s recruitment team has delivered highly positive assessments of the Algerian defender after closely monitoring his performances for both club and country.

Belghali’s ability to operate as a conventional right-back or in a more advanced wing-back role has made him an attractive option.

His pace, energy and tactical flexibility are seen as qualities that would fit well into Fiorentina’s plans for next season.

The defender also enhanced his growing reputation with Algeria. His displays for the national team, including his goal in the entertaining 3-3 draw against Austria, have further increased his profile and strengthened interest from clubs competing at the highest level of Italian football.

However, securing his signature is expected to prove far from straightforward.

Although Hellas Verona suffered relegation, the club is under no immediate pressure to sell. Belghali remains under contract until 2029, placing Verona in a strong negotiating position during the transfer window.

Reports suggest the club, which signed the Algerian for around €2 million just a year ago, is determined to maximise any potential transfer.

Verona are believed to value the defender at between €12 million and €15 million and are unwilling to allow him to leave for less than that figure.

Fiorentina are also facing significant competition.

Several Serie A rivals, including AS Roma, Inter Milan, Bologna and Udinese, are all reported to be monitoring Belghali’s situation closely.

Their interest could trigger a competitive battle for one of the league’s most promising young defenders and potentially drive his transfer fee even higher.

The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as clubs continue to strengthen their squads before the new season begins.

For Belghali, the transfer window could present an opportunity to take another major step in his career. After impressing with both Hellas Verona and the Algerian national team, the defender appears well positioned to secure a move that would allow him to continue competing at the highest level of Serie A if the right agreement can be reached.
