World Cup 2026: France teammates hail Michael Olise after dazzling displays
Michael Olise’s outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup continue to earn widespread admiration, with France teammates William Saliba and Manu Kone paying an emotional tribute to the Bayern Munich playmaker after his brilliant start to the tournament.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the stars of the World Cup, leading the tournament’s assist charts with five assists while becoming the creative heartbeat of Didier Deschamps’ side. His displays have helped France reach the quarter-finals and established him as one of the competition’s standout performers.
France’s official national team account shared a heartwarming video showing Olise being embraced by Arsenal defender William Saliba and AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone, who reflected on watching his development through the youth ranks.
“We saw him grow up, didn’t we? He is our pride. We saw him grow up in the Under-21s. You make us proud,” Saliba and Koné told Olise.
The tribute highlights the remarkable rise of the London-born playmaker, who only made his senior France debut in 2024 but has quickly become indispensable for Les Bleus. Coach Didier Deschamps even reshaped his attacking system to maximise Olise’s creativity, with the Bayern Munich star flourishing alongside Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé.
Olise’s influence has been evident throughout France’s World Cup campaign. He registered two assists in the emphatic 3-0 Round of 32 victory over Sweden, setting up goals for Bradley Barcola and Mbappé, before continuing to dictate play as France edged Paraguay 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals. France also topped Group I after victories over Senegal and Iraq, establishing themselves as one of the tournament favourites.
French media have been equally effusive in their praise. Le Figaro described Olise as “an artist who has captured hearts,” while Le Parisien labelled him the “official distributor of happiness,” reflecting the excitement generated by his elegant style and selfless play.
His performances have inevitably sparked speculation over his club future. Reports in France suggest both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are monitoring the attacking midfielder despite him only joining Bayern Munich last year.
However, fellow France international and Bayern teammate Dayot Upamecano has attempted to dismiss the rumours, insisting Olise has no intention of leaving the Bundesliga champions.
“He’s staying, he’s staying,” Upamecano said when asked about Olise’s future.
For now, Olise’s focus remains firmly on helping France lift a third World Cup title. With five assists already to his name and a growing understanding with Mbappe, the playmaker has become the creative force behind one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacks. France’s front four have combined to score freely throughout the competition, reinforcing their status as genuine contenders to go all the way.
