Arthur Zwane set to join Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana coaching team

Safa are reportedly close to appointing Arthur Zwane as Pitso Mosimane’s second assistant coach with Bafana Bafana.

Zwane is expected to take up the position on a part-time basis while continuing as AmaZulu head coach. He would also oversee the national Under-23 setup, with responsibility for helping promising players make the transition into the senior side.

The proposed appointment would mark Zwane’s return to the Bafana Bafana technical team. He previously worked as an assistant to Molefe Ntseki, who is now the team’s technical director.

Mosimane assumed control of the national team early this month after Hugo Broos left the position. He has already brought in two trusted members of his backroom staff, with Musi Matlaba continuing as an analyst and Kabelo Rangoaga taking charge of fitness.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach then appointed Morena Ramorebolia as his first assistant. Ramorebolia stepped down as head coach of the Botswana national team before accepting the role.

Reports emerging this week suggest Zwane will become the latest addition to Mosimane’s technical team, although his work with Bafana Bafana would be combined with his duties at AmaZulu.

Zwane’s record in developing young players is believed to be a key factor behind the move. His work at AmaZulu has focused on giving opportunities to younger footballers and preparing them for the demands of professional football.

That commitment to youth development was also evident earlier in his career at Kaizer Chiefs, where he worked within the club’s youth structures. Several players he helped develop have since moved to Europe, while others have established themselves as senior professionals.

His potential return comes as Mosimane prepares to take over a side that made significant progress under Broos. Bafana Bafana qualified for back-to-back continental showpieces and the World Cup, where they historically reached the Round of 32.

Mosimane will therefore be expected to sustain that momentum when his tenure begins with an Afcon qualifier against Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on September 30.

Four days later, Bafana Bafana will face Eritrea at the neutral Al Salam Stadium in Cairo. The international window will conclude with a friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on October 4.
