Pitso Mosimane hails South Africa players

Experienced coach Pitso Mosimane is reportedly the frontrunner to take over as head coach of South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, amid growing uncertainty over Hugo Broos’ future.

Multiple reports in the South African media indicate that Mosimane has emerged as the preferred candidate to lead the side after the 2026 FIFA World Cup cycle, with discussions said to be gaining momentum behind the scenes.

Sources further suggest that Morena Ramoreboli could be integrated into Mosimane’s technical setup, potentially serving as an assistant coach if the appointment goes through.

Ramoreboli, who currently manages the Botswana national team, brings international experience, including CAF Champions League exposure with Jwaneng Galaxy.

Mosimane, widely known as “Jingles”, has been out of active coaching for over a year following his departure from Iranian side Esteghlal FC. During this period, he has focused on his youth development project, Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools.

The 61-year-old boasts an illustrious managerial record, highlighted by three CAF Champions League titles—one with Mamelodi Sundowns and two with Al Ahly SC—alongside multiple domestic league triumphs in South Africa and Egypt.

Meanwhile, SAFA are expected to make a final decision on Broos’ future in the coming weeks as attention turns to preparations for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has confirmed that the association will assess Bafana Bafana’s World Cup performance before holding talks with the Belgian tactician.

Broos has been credited with revitalising South African football, guiding the team to consecutive Africa Cup of Nations qualifications and leading Bafana to the FIFA World Cup after a 16-year absence, where they also progressed to the knockout stage for the first time in history.
