RC Lens confirm departure of Senegal defender Malang Sarr after two seasons
RC Lens have officially announced the departure of Senegal defender Malang Sarr after the player reached the end of his contract with the French club.
The Ligue 1 side confirmed on Tuesday through their official channels that the 27-year-old centre-back will leave Artois following two seasons with the team.
Sarr joined RC Lens from Chelsea in 2024 and went on to become an important figure in the squad.
During his time at the club, the Senegal international made 62 appearances and played a key role in Lens’ recent campaign.
The defender was also part of the team that lifted the Coupe de France last year after defeating OGC Nice 3-1 in the final, marking a memorable achievement for the club.
After making 33 Ligue 1 appearances this season, Sarr is now available as a free agent as he looks for the next step in his career.
RC Lens paid tribute to the defender in their official statement, highlighting his contribution during his time at the club.
“A key figure in Racing’s historic season, Malang Sarr is leaving Artois at the end of his contract. The club warmly thanks the defender and wishes him all the best for the rest of his career,” the club said.
Sarr’s departure brings an end to his spell in northern France, where he established himself as an experienced presence in the Lens squad.
The Senegalese defender will now consider his options after completing his contract with RC Lens, while the French club moves forward following the exit of one of their important players from recent seasons.
