Ivorian winger Simon Adingra returns to Sunderland after Monaco loan spell ends
Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra will return to Sunderland AFC following the end of his loan spell with AS Monaco.
The French Ligue 1 side officially confirmed Adingra’s departure on Monday, bringing an end to the winger’s short stay at the club after deciding not to make his move permanent.
Adingra joined Monaco during the winter transfer window in February on a season-long loan deal as the principality outfit sought additional attacking options for the second half of the campaign. Despite showing flashes of quality, the club has opted against retaining the 24-year-old beyond the expiration of the temporary agreement.
The talented winger will now head back to England, where he remains under contract with Sunderland until 2030.
During his time in France, Adingra featured regularly for Monaco and delivered several important contributions in attack. The Ivorian forward made 17 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring three goals while also providing three assists.
His pace, dribbling ability and creativity helped strengthen Monaco’s attacking department during the latter stages of the season, although the club ultimately decided not to pursue a permanent transfer.
Adingra, who has become an important player for the Ivory Coast national football team in recent years, will now look to fight for his place at Sunderland ahead of the new campaign.
The former African champions will also be hoping the winger continues his development at club level as he remains one of Ivory Coast’s brightest attacking talents for the future.
