Ivory Coast winger Yann Gboho joins Coventry City in €15m move from Toulouse

Coventry City have completed the signing of Ivory Coast winger Yann Gboho from French side Toulouse in a deal reportedly worth around €15m.

The 25-year-old joins the newly promoted Premier League club despite the transfer window having closed on Tuesday, with the move able to go through after an agreement was reportedly reached before the deadline.

Gboho’s arrival marks a significant move for the Ivorian attacker, who leaves Toulouse after an impressive spell in France.

Deadline agreement allows deal to go through

The transfer was completed nearly 72 hours after the window officially closed.

According to Foot Mercato, Coventry and Toulouse had reached an agreement before the transfer deadline, allowing the deal to be finalised afterwards.

Gboho had initially been close to joining Sporting Kansas City, but that move collapsed before Coventry revived their interest and secured his signature.

The transfer fee has not been officially disclosed, although reports place the deal at approximately €15m.

Impressive Toulouse record

Gboho had just one year remaining on his Toulouse contract before completing his move to England.

Since joining the French club in January 2024, the winger scored 19 goals and provided 12 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions.

He also began the current campaign positively, registering an assist in his two appearances for Toulouse before his departure.

The Ivorian did not feature in Toulouse’s match against Lille on Thursday night.

New Premier League opportunity

For Gboho, the move offers an opportunity to test himself in the Premier League after establishing himself as one of Toulouse’s key attacking players.

His arrival also gives Coventry additional attacking quality as the newly promoted side prepare for the challenges of competing in England’s top flight.

The transfer represents another important step for an African player making his mark in European football, with Gboho now set to become part of Coventry’s Premier League project following his successful spell in Ligue 1.
