Fadlu Davids to join Young Africans

Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC have reportedly approached South African coach Fadlu Davids as they look to fill their vacant head coaching position ahead of the new season.

Davids is currently unattached after being dismissed by Moroccan powerhouse Raja Club Athletic last month following a series of disappointing results that ended his short spell in North Africa.

The South African tactician, however, is no stranger to Tanzanian football, having previously managed Young Africans’ fierce rivals Simba SC earlier in his career, a factor that could make his potential appointment even more intriguing.

Interestingly, Davids joined Raja Casablanca after his stint with Simba SC, meaning a move to Young Africans would see him complete a rare managerial circle involving both of Tanzania’s biggest clubs.

Young Africans began the current season under Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, who was later relieved of his duties. Since then, technical director Abdihamid Moallin has been overseeing the team on an interim basis.

Club sources indicate that Davids has been identified as a leading candidate for the role as Yanga plan for the upcoming campaign, with the club keen to maintain their domestic dominance and build on recent success.

The reigning Tanzanian champions are currently top of the NBC Premier League and remain in a tight title race with rivals Simba SC. They are expected to secure their 27th league title if they win their final match of the season.

Should they go on to lift the trophy, Davids could potentially take charge of the defending champions, adding further pressure and expectation ahead of what would be a high-profile appointment in East African football.

Discussions are believed to be at an early stage, but the interest highlights Yanga’s ambition to strengthen their technical bench as they prepare for domestic and continental competitions next season.
