Pyramids FC open talks with Walid Regragui over potential managerial appointment
Egyptian giants Pyramids FC have initiated contact with former Morocco head coach Walid Regragui regarding a possible move to take charge of the club, with discussions understood to be at an early stage.
No agreement has been reached between the two parties, and negotiations remain ongoing as the club explores options to reshape its technical leadership ahead of the new campaign.
Regragui, who is currently unattached, left his role as head coach of Morocco following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Atlas Lions faced Senegal in their final outing under his stewardship.
His departure marked the end of a notable spell in charge of the national team, during which he earned widespread recognition for Morocco’s disciplined tactical structure and deep tournament runs on the international stage.
Since stepping away, the 49-year-old has attracted interest from several quarters, with reports linking him to roles at Olympique Marseille and to national team vacancies in South Africa and other European and African destinations.
His growing reputation as one of the continent’s most respected modern coaches has kept him in high demand after guiding Morocco to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Pyramids FC, who have established themselves as one of the leading forces in Egyptian football in recent years, are believed to be keen on bringing in a high-profile coach with an international pedigree to strengthen their domestic and continental ambitions.
For now, talks are understood to remain exploratory, with no final decision expected imminently.
