Nigeria coach Eric Chelle reach agreement to sign new long-term contract
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly reached an agreement with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle over a new long-term deal.
As per reports, the agreement was reached during a key meeting held on Tuesday at the National Sports Commission (NSC) headquarters in Abuja, where top football and sports administrators gathered to finalise discussions on the future of the Super Eagles project.
The meeting brought together influential stakeholders, including NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, alongside Chelle himself. Talks are understood to have focused on performance evaluation, long-term planning, and the structural direction of the national team.
Chelle, who has been tasked with rebuilding and stabilising the Super Eagles, is said to have impressed officials with his tactical approach and his vision for integrating both experienced players and emerging talents into a more competitive squad capable of challenging at the highest level.
The agreement reportedly includes improved financial terms, with Chelle’s monthly salary set to rise significantly from $45,000 to $100,000. The adjustment is seen as a reflection of the federation’s desire to reward progress while ensuring continuity in leadership ahead of upcoming international assignments.
Officials are believed to view stability in the coaching position as crucial, particularly as Nigeria continues to fine-tune its squad ahead of major continental and global competitions. The decision to retain Chelle is therefore also seen as part of a broader strategy to maintain consistency and long-term planning within the Super Eagles setup.
While the NFF is yet to issue an official public statement confirming all details of the agreement, the reported deal has already generated strong reactions among supporters, many of whom see continuity as essential for sustained success.
With the new arrangement in place, attention now shifts to Chelle’s next phase in charge, as he looks to deliver results that match the renewed confidence and investment from Nigerian football authorities.
