Orlando Pirates attacker Mofokeng eyes overseas move after impressive campaign
Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng has declared his ambition to secure a move abroad following an impressive campaign for club and country.
Mofokeng came on as a second-half substitute in Bafana Bafana’s 1–1 draw against Czech Republic last Thursday, marking his first appearance at the tournament and adding energy to the team’s attacking play.
Speaking after the match, Mofokeng described the experience as a proud moment, while emphasising the collective effort of the squad.
“Obviously, it was very special, but I think everyone did his best,” he said, as quoted by Sporty TV.
“I think the most important thing is to compete, and we came here to do that. I think I’m one of the people who can compete.”
The 19-year-old also addressed the long-standing debate about the quality of the South African Premier Soccer League, insisting that it prepares players well for top-level competition.
In his view, the PSL ranks among the strongest leagues he has experienced, giving players the platform to test themselves against elite opposition.
“I also believe I play in one of the best leagues in the world,” he added. “I think I can compete anywhere. So, if you can compete here, you can compete anywhere in the world and in any league.”
Mofokeng’s confident display against European opposition has further strengthened his belief that he is ready for the next step in his career, with a potential move abroad now firmly on his radar.
He stressed that Bafana Bafana arrived at the World Cup with a clear objective — to compete at the highest level — and believes the team is holding its own against top international sides.
“We’re doing fine, we’re doing okay. We came here to compete and we’re doing very well,” he said.
Mofokeng is expected to play a key role when South Africa face South Korea in their decisive Group A clash on Thursday, with qualification hopes still hanging in the balance.
