Ismaïla Sarr reveals frustration after Norway defeat

Senegal international Ismaïla Sarr has expressed deep frustration after the side suffered a 3–2 defeat to Norway in their second Group I match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.

Despite a bright and energetic start from the Lions of Teranga, Senegal were undone by defensive lapses in the second half, a result that has left their qualification hopes for the Round of 32 hanging in the balance.

Sarr, who delivered a standout performance by scoring twice for Senegal, admitted the team struggled to maintain control after the break and paid heavily for their mistakes.

“We started the match very well; we worked hard,” Sarr said. “Unfortunately, we conceded two goals in the second half, including another very early second goal. We kept working, giving it our all, but well… I’m lost for words because we simply shouldn’t have let that happen.”

The winger highlighted how costly the lapses were, particularly against a disciplined Norwegian side that capitalised on Senegal’s defensive weaknesses to turn the game around.

Despite the disappointment, Sarr insisted the team remains focused on finishing strongly in their final group fixture, urging unity and determination as they look to restore pride.

“We’ll keep working hard and make our people and our supporters proud,” he added.

Senegal now turn their attention to a decisive final Group I encounter against Iraq on 26 June, where only a positive result is likely to keep their World Cup campaign alive.
