Romeo Amane: Birmingham linked with Rapid Vienna’s Ivorian midfielder in €5m move

Birmingham City are being linked with a move for Ivorian central midfielder Romeo Amane, who currently plays for Rapid Vienna in Austria’s Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old, valued at €5.00m on Transfermarkt, is the subject of growing speculation over a switch to the Championship side, with the probability of a move currently rated at 47% according to the latest reports dated 22 June 2026. Amane is under contract at Rapid Vienna, but his deal has no publicly listed expiry date, fuelling talk that he could become a free agent in future if an extension is not agreed.

Born in Abidjan on 20 February 2003, the 1.76m right-footed midfielder has established himself as a central option for Rapid Vienna, wearing the No 29 shirt. He plays primarily as a central midfielder, a role in which Birmingham are understood to be seeking reinforcements ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Rapid Vienna compete in the Austrian Bundesliga, and Amane has been part of their first-team squad during the current campaign, though detailed appearance and goal statistics have not been disclosed in the latest data. In his most recent recorded outing for Rapid, he featured in a league fixture earlier this month – a match highlighted in Austrian media because of his work off the ball and aggressive pressing in midfield – as Rapid continued their push in the top flight.

Birmingham’s interest is framed against that backdrop, with the English club monitoring a player whose market value suggests a potential bargain if contract circumstances were to allow a reduced fee or even a free-agent scenario down the line.

If the move does materialise, a transfer from Vienna to Birmingham could provide Amane with a significant platform in English football and a chance to enhance both his reputation and long-term prospects at just 23 years of age.
