World Cup 2026: Aïssa Mandi urges Algeria focus ahead of Bolivia and Argentina tests
Algeria defender Aïssa Mandi has called on his teammates to stay fully focused and united as the squad prepares for their final build-up matches before the 2026 World Cup, including a high-profile opener against Argentina.
The experienced LOSC Lille centre-back, one of the senior figures in the Algerian squad, addressed the group ahead of their friendly against Bolivia, urging players not to lose sight of the discipline required at international level.
With more than a decade of service for the national team and World Cup experience already behind him, Mandi is among the most influential voices in the dressing room. As Algeria fine-tune preparations for the tournament, he reminded his teammates of the effort that went into securing qualification.
“Just a few more days until the start of the competition. We dreamed of this, we worked hard for it.”
Mandi stressed that the mentality required for a World Cup cannot be switched on at the last moment, warning that preparation must already reflect the demands of the tournament environment.
“We’re not going to start thinking we’re in the World Cup the day before the first match.”
His remarks were delivered shortly before the friendly against Bolivia, and were intended to reinforce the idea that every training session and every minute on the pitch now carries added significance as Algeria complete their final preparations.
Beyond mentality, Mandi also underlined the importance of collective unity within the squad, regardless of individual roles or playing time. He emphasised that cohesion would be key if Algeria are to compete effectively on the world stage.
“No matter how much time is played, no matter how many minutes, we’re all together from start to finish.”
The message reflects the approach of head coach Vladimir Petković, who has consistently stressed the importance of squad harmony and shared responsibility ahead of the tournament.
Algeria are using their remaining preparation matches to finalise tactical plans before facing Argentina in their opening Group J fixture on 17 June. The match will provide an immediate test against the reigning world champions and is seen as a major early indicator of Algeria’s ambitions in the competition.
With expectations building, Mandi’s intervention highlights the focus within the camp as the team prepares for one of the most challenging stages in international football.
