Orlando Pirates part ways with Sipho Mbule and four others
Orlando Pirates have confirmed the departure of five players following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, with the exit of South African midfielder Sipho Mbule emerging as the most surprising development in the club’s squad reshuffle.
The Premiership champions announced a significant clear-out as they begin planning for the next campaign, releasing Mbule alongside Bandile Shandu, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Karim Kimvuidi, and Deivi Miguel Vieira.
While all five exits mark a notable transition for the Soweto giants, Mbule’s departure has drawn the most attention from supporters and the wider football community, given his status as a fan favourite during his time at the club.
Despite not being a consistent starter in the latter stages of the season, Mbule remained an influential figure whenever called upon. His creativity, technical ability, and vision in midfield often provided a spark for Pirates in tight matches, making his exit particularly unexpected.
In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude to all departing players, acknowledging their contributions to the team’s success and journey.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm the departure of five players following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season,” the club said.
The statement confirmed the full list of exits, noting that each player will leave upon the expiration of their respective contracts.
“The players who will be leaving the Club upon the conclusion of their respective contracts are Bandile Shandu, Sipho Mbule, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Karim Kimvuidi and Deivi Miguel Vieira,” the club added.
Pirates also took time to highlight the collective impact of the departing group, stressing that each player played a role in the club’s recent journey, both on and off the pitch.
“Each of the players departs having contributed to the Orlando Pirates journey in their own way, and the Club would like to place on record its appreciation for their service during their time with the Buccaneers,” the statement read.
The Soweto-based side concluded by wishing the quintet success in the next stages of their careers, as they prepare to rebuild ahead of a demanding new season.
For Mbule in particular, the shock exit will raise questions among supporters, given his ability to influence games and his popularity within the squad. His next move is now expected to attract significant attention in the South African football market as clubs assess the opportunity to secure a proven midfield talent on the open market.
