Algerian defender Aït-Nouri reveals Guardiola’s impact on his development
Algerian defender Rayan Aït-Nouri says working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City has helped him improve several aspects of his game as he continues adapting to life at the Premier League club.
The 24-year-old, who joined City from Wolverhampton last summer, spoke to the BBC about his first season with the English champions and the influence Guardiola has had on his development both tactically and defensively.
Now competing within one of Europe’s strongest squads, the former Saint-Étienne and Angers left-back admitted he is enjoying the challenge despite fierce competition for places.
“I’m really enjoying this experience,” the Algerian defender said. “Training every day with these kinds of players and with a coach like Guardiola allows me to constantly improve. I’m very happy to be able to develop in this environment.”
Since arriving at Manchester City, Aït-Nouri believes he has evolved in several important areas of his game. Previously known more for his attacking qualities during his time at Wolverhampton, the Algerian international explained that Guardiola has helped him become a more complete player.
“Guardiola has helped me improve in many areas,” explained the Algerian international. “Defensively, in my positioning on the pitch, in moments when I need to restart play quickly or try to take on defenders one-on-one, but also in the quality of my crosses. He helps me enormously every day.”
Aït-Nouri also highlighted the demanding environment at Manchester City, where tactical discipline and attention to detail remain central to the club’s philosophy.
Although his first season at the club has included periods of inconsistent playing time, the defender appears fully committed to the long-term project at City and determined to continue progressing under Guardiola’s guidance.
The Algerian international now hopes to establish himself more firmly within the Manchester City squad while also carrying his improved form into future appearances with the Algeria national team.
For Aït-Nouri, the experience of working daily with Guardiola and some of the world’s top players has already marked an important stage in his career, with the defender confident that his development is continuing in the right direction.
