FECAFOOT officially inaugurated its new headquarters in the Warda district of Yaoundé on Wednesday in a ceremony attended by leading figures from African football and senior Cameroonian authorities.
The event marked the completion of a project that had been awaited for several years and was celebrated in the presence of Samuel Eto’o, who currently serves as president of the federation.
Also present was Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, who travelled to Cameroon specifically for the occasion. Motsepe was welcomed personally by Eto’o before taking part in the full inauguration ceremony alongside administrative, military and religious authorities from across the country.
Joseph Dion Ngute attended on behalf of President Paul Biya, highlighting the national significance attached to the opening of the new federation complex.
Several well-known names from African football were also present, including Rigobert Song, Stéphane Mbia, Timothée Atouba, Léandre Tawamba, Jay-Jay Okocha and El Hadji Diouf.
During his address, Eto’o described the inauguration as the culmination of a long process aimed at modernising the administrative and sporting infrastructure of Cameroonian football. The former Cameroon captain stressed the importance of providing the federation with facilities that reflect the ambitions of the country’s football development plans.
Motsepe congratulated the Cameroonian football leadership on the completion of the project and reiterated CAF’s commitment to supporting football growth across the continent.
The headquarters project was originally launched after the 2010 FIFA World Cup under former FECAFOOT president Mohammed Iya. However, construction faced significant delays before being revived under Eto’o’s leadership in recent years.
Eto’o paid tribute to Mohammed Iya during the ceremony, acknowledging his role in initiating the vision behind the project.
The newly inaugurated complex includes renovated administrative offices, accommodation facilities, a modern synthetic pitch and additional infrastructure designed to support the development of football in Cameroon.
FECAFOOT also plans to expand the site further with additional sports facilities as part of its long-term development strategy
