Washington, D.C., officially marked W.A.C. Day on May 8 with a celebration honouring the cultural influence and international impact of Wydad Athletic Club and its strong ties to the Moroccan community living abroad.

In a formal message issued to commemorate the occasion, Robert C. White Jr. described the celebration as more than just a football event, stating that it serves as a tribute to cultural diversity, community spirit, and international friendship.

According to White, W.A.C. Day highlights the ability of sport to bring people together across different backgrounds while strengthening relationships between communities in Washington and beyond. He also praised the contributions of the Moroccan community in enriching the social and cultural landscape of the American capital.

The councilmember further revealed that his office introduced the proclamation officially recognising W.A.C. Day in the district last year, describing it as an important step toward celebrating global traditions and shared values through sport and culture.

White noted that the celebration reflects Washington’s identity as a diverse and globally connected city that embraces different cultures and promotes dialogue among communities.

He also commended organisers, supporters, and community leaders for helping transform the event into a symbol of unity and mutual respect.

Founded in Casablanca, Wydad Athletic Club remains one of Morocco’s most successful and widely supported football clubs, enjoying a strong following among Moroccan communities across the world.

The W.A.C. Day celebration in Washington also underscores the strengthening cultural relationship between Morocco and the United States, with sport continuing to play an important role in fostering cultural exchange and community engagement.

White concluded his remarks by expressing optimism that the annual celebration would continue to inspire unity, friendship, and stronger international connections in the years to come.
