Ivorian defender Cédric Kipré joins Ipswich permanently after promotion
Ipswich Town have confirmed the permanent signing of Ivorian defender Cédric Kipré following their promotion to the Premier League.
The deal was automatically triggered after Ipswich secured a return to the top flight with a 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, activating the purchase clause included in Kipré’s season-long loan from Stade de Reims.
The club confirmed the move in an official statement, making Kipré their first signing ahead of next season.
The 29-year-old centre-back will formally join Ipswich on a permanent basis from July 1, signing a contract that runs until June 2028.
While the club did not disclose the financial details, previous reports suggest the transfer fee is in the region of €4.5 million.
Kipré’s move marks a significant step in his career, as he prepares for his first experience in England’s top tier after several seasons playing in the lower divisions.
Having previously represented clubs such as West Bromwich Albion and Sporting Charleroi, the defender has built a reputation for consistency and physical presence at the back.
Speaking after the announcement, Kipré expressed his delight at extending his stay with the club, highlighting the strong connection he has developed since arriving on loan.
“It’s an awesome feeling to officially be part of this massive club after everything we’ve accomplished together.
I’ve loved being here since the first day I arrived. Everyone welcomed me so warmly that I didn’t feel like I was on loan, so I’m delighted to become a permanent player.
I can’t wait to start next season and it will mean a lot to represent this club in the Premier League. It was my dream and I’m very, very happy.”
Kipré played a key role in Ipswich’s successful campaign, making 35 appearances across all competitions, including 32 in the Championship.
During that time, he contributed three goals and two assists, underlining his impact at both ends of the pitch.
His performances were instrumental in helping Ipswich secure promotion, and the club’s decision to activate the purchase option reflects their confidence in his ability to compete at a higher level.
As the team prepares for the challenges of the Premier League, Kipré is expected to remain an important figure in their defensive setup.
The club is pleased to confirm the permanent signing of Cédric Kipré from @StadeDeReims. 🤝
