Thioune shows patience with struggling Samuel Mbangula at Bremen

Samuel Mbangula continues to wait for his breakthrough at Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen signed Samuel Mbangula from Juventus on a permanent transfer for a reported fee of €10 million plus up to €2 million in performance-related bonuses, marking the second-highest incoming transfer fee in the club’s history. He has been playing a peripheral role in recent weeks with his last goal contribution coming several months ago.

Against Augsburg, Samuel Mbangula was given over half an hour of playing time in the 3-1 defeat. While glimpses of his strengths in dribbling and ball retention were visible, the significant impact on the match remained absent.

Manager Daniel Thioune acknowledged the adjustment challenges, noting that Mbangula joined late and missed parts of pre-season preparation. “He needs perhaps more adjustment time,” Thioune explained according to Bild, while emphasizing he still sees great potential in the player.

Daniel Thioune’s strategy involves using a complete summer pre-season to help Mbangula rediscover his best form. The upcoming months will prove crucial for both his development and future at Werder Bremen.
