Moroccan youngster Othmane Maamma crowned Watford’s young player of the season
Watford FC youngster Othmane Maaama has been named the club’s Young Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign, rounding off an impressive breakthrough year in English football.
The 20-year-old forward earned the recognition following a season in which he established himself as one of the emerging talents in the EFL Championship. His growing influence was evident across the campaign, as he made 25 appearances, scored four goals and provided one assist.
Beyond the numbers, Maama’s impact was defined by his attacking energy and tactical awareness, qualities that earned him praise from both the coaching staff and supporters as he continued to develop into a key figure for Watford.
His season, however, was not without its challenges. Injury setbacks limited his involvement at certain stages, while international duty with the Morocco U20 national team in 2025 also kept him away from club action for periods.
Despite these interruptions, Maama consistently delivered whenever he returned to the pitch, further underlining his potential and resilience.
Having joined Watford in 2025 after progressing through the ranks in France, the forward adapted quickly to the demands of English football, showcasing maturity beyond his years.
On the international stage, he has already made a significant mark, playing a key role in Morocco’s triumph at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he was awarded the Golden Ball. His performances also earned him the CAF Young Player of the Year accolade in 2025.
This latest honour adds to a growing list of achievements for Maama, whose rapid rise suggests a future that could soon take him to even bigger stages in world football.
