Denmark’s rebuild following their World Cup disappointment will take a significant step forward in June, with the Scandinavian side set to face DR Congo and Ukraine in two high-profile international friendlies.

The fixtures, confirmed by the Danish Football Association, are part of a broader effort to shape a new-look squad ahead of upcoming major tournaments.

The Danes will first come up against DR Congo on June 3 in Liège, Belgium, offering them a stern examination against one of Africa’s emerging World Cup contenders.

Four days later, attention shifts to Odense, where Ukraine will provide a contrasting European test in front of home supporters.

These matches arrive at a pivotal moment for Denmark, who are navigating a transitional phase after a significant generational shift within the squad.

Having failed to secure qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the team is now focused on building cohesion and rediscovering its competitive edge.

Head coach Brian Riemer emphasised the importance of these fixtures in accelerating that process. “We are in the process of playing a new team in for the Nations League and the 2028 European Championships after a major generational change. The team needs to play more matches together and strengthen relations,” he said.

Riemer highlighted the calibre of opposition as a key factor in Denmark’s preparations. “We do this best by being tested against good opponents, as we will be tested in these two matches, and hopefully we have most of our players available.”

Facing DR Congo offers Denmark a chance to measure themselves against a physically dynamic and ambitious African side, while Ukraine’s tactical discipline will present a different kind of challenge. Together, the fixtures are expected to provide valuable insights into the squad’s development.
