Dortmund and Karim Adeyemi at a standstill as contract talks hit a major impasse
Borussia Dortmund are facing a key decision over the future of German forward of Nigerian descent, Karim Adeyemi, as negotiations over a new contract have reportedly reached a major deadlock.
The 24-year-old forward is currently tied to Dortmund until the summer of 2027, but talks over an extension have been ongoing for months without progress.
Sporting Director Sets Clear Ultimatum
New sporting director Sebastian Kehl’s successor, Ole Bock, has taken a firm stance on the situation, making it clear that Adeyemi must either sign a new deal or be sold in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Since officially taking office on March 23, Bock has prioritised the case, opening discussions with the player’s representatives and also speaking directly with agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Adeyemi.
Negotiations Stuck Over Key Demands
Dortmund, working alongside sporting director Lars Ricken, have presented their contract proposal, but Mendes has responded with expectations that differ significantly.
According to reports, the gap between both sides remains wide, particularly regarding salary structure and the proposed release clause terms from 2027 onwards.
Summer Sale Becomes Real Possibility
While Dortmund still prefer to extend Adeyemi’s contract in principle, the club are determined not to enter the final year of his deal without clarity on his future.
If no breakthrough is reached in the coming weeks, the internal plan is to place Adeyemi on the transfer market this summer to avoid the risk of losing him under unfavourable conditions later on.
Key Decision Ahead
The coming period will therefore be decisive for both the player and the club, with Dortmund weighing continuity against financial and strategic risk as they prepare for a potentially major squad decision.
