Ghana winger Joseph Opoku’s late assist seals Swansea City win over Millwall

Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku delivered a decisive late contribution as Swansea City secured a 1-0 victory over Millwall at The Den to maintain their strong start to the 2026/27 EFL Championship season.

With the contest seemingly heading for a goalless draw, the 21-year-old produced a moment of quality in the 89th minute, delivering a looping cross that Brazilian substitute Ronald converted with a first-time finish.

The breakthrough came shortly after an eight-minute stoppage to investigate allegations of racist chanting from a section of the crowd, disrupting an already tense encounter.

Despite the interruption, Vitor Matos’ side remained composed and found a way to claim all three points away from home.

The assist was Opoku’s first of the campaign since joining Swansea in the summer. He has quickly established himself as an important attacking option, having already scored against Stoke City and Derby County.

The Ghanaian now has two goals and one assist in eight Championship appearances, underlining his growing influence in Swansea’s promotion push.

The victory keeps Swansea firmly at the top of the Championship table as they seek to sustain their early-season momentum.
