Tanzanian giants Azam FC have reportedly entered the race to sign highly rated Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Nwabali, who has been without a club since parting ways with South African side Chippa United in February 2026, is expected to intensify efforts to secure a new team as he looks to strengthen his case for a return to the Super Eagles setup amid increasing competition for the position.

The experienced shot-stopper has attracted widespread interest across the continent, with reports previously linking him to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs, Tanzanian champions Simba SC, and Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club, alongside growing speculation of potential interest from Europe.

Azam FC are now the latest club said to be monitoring the goalkeeper closely, with reports suggesting they are keen to add him to their squad for next season.

Meanwhile, Nwabali’s representatives have already addressed earlier links with Simba SC. Speaking to Footy Africa, the goalkeeper’s agent acknowledged interest from the Tanzanian champions but avoided confirming any advanced negotiations.

“Yes, I am aware Simba are looking to sign a goalkeeper, and Nwabali is one of those who has come on their radar at the moment,” the agent said.

“I think he will be a huge addition to the Tanzanian league because of his profile, even though I still do not understand why he left Chippa United when he did.”

With multiple clubs now reportedly in the mix, Nwabali’s next move is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched transfer stories in African football this off-season.
