Azzedine Ounahi set to miss Morocco’s November qualifiers against Niger

Azzedine Ounahi is expected to miss Morocco’s two Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying matches against Niger in November after suffering a serious hamstring injury.

The midfielder was taken off on a stretcher during a Greek league match on Sunday and underwent further tests on Monday. An MRI scan showed a third-degree tear to the biceps femoris in his right thigh, according to Le360 Sport.

Sources close to Panathinaikos believe Ounahi could be unavailable for between two and a half and three months. However, no official statement had been issued by the club or Morocco at the time of writing.

The injury is likely to rule the 26-year-old out of Morocco’s next two qualifiers, with Niger visiting Casablanca on 13 November before the return fixture takes place in Rabat on 17 November. The matches are the third and fourth rounds of the CAN 2027 qualifying campaign.

Ounahi has 58 international caps and has scored 12 goals for Morocco. He was regarded as a key member of Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad during the most recent international break, providing an assist in the 2-0 win over Lesotho on 29 September in the second round of qualifying.

The latest setback is Ounahi’s 10th injury since November 2022. He has endured repeated fitness problems over the past four seasons, including last season, when a calf injury kept the former Marseille player out during October 2025 and again from January to February.

Morocco have not yet confirmed the length of his absence or whether he will definitely be unavailable for the November fixtures.
