Mainz push to extend Silas Katompa-Mvumpa’s stay beyond summer
Mainz 05 are keen to keep Silas Katompa-Mvumpa at the club beyond this summer and plan to open renewal talks in May.
According to Sky, the Bundesliga side would like to extend the 27-year-old winger’s expiring contract, reflecting how highly they rate his profile despite his current setback.
From the player’s side, staying in Mainz is also seen as a realistic option, with concrete discussions scheduled for early May. For now, though, the focus is on his recovery. Silas suffered a broken shin and fibula during the Conference League last-16 tie against Sigma Olomouc in March and will miss the remainder of the season, leaving Mainz without one of their most dynamic attackers for the run-in.
Even so, the club remain convinced by what he brings. Signed from Stuttgart in January, Silas offers pace, depth runs and strong one-on-one ability on the flanks, and he can operate across multiple wide attacking positions.
A 20-cap DR Congo international, he still enjoys a high standing within the squad, and Mainz clearly view him as an important part of their plans once he returns to full fitness.
