Nigeria midfielder Akintola Edowo confirms Al Ahly talks over possible move
Nigeria midfielder David Akintola Edowo has confirmed talks with Egyptian giants Al Ahly over a possible summer switch.
Akintola Edowo, who currently plays for Bulgarian side Arda Kardzhali, admitted in an exclusive interview that the Egyptian giants have already made contact as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming transfer window.
According to Akintola, the talks are at an early stage and are being conducted exclusively with his representative, as his current contract situation allows him to explore pre-contract agreements ahead of its expiration.
“Al Ahly is negotiating with my agent to acquire my services in the summer,” he confirmed.
The 25-year-old added that while discussions are ongoing, no final agreement has been reached yet, but he acknowledged strong interest from the Egyptian champions as they prepare for squad changes ahead of next season.
Akintola’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026, meaning he is eligible to negotiate with other clubs ahead of time. He joined Arda Kardzhali in 2024 on a free transfer after leaving Latvian side Daugavpils, and has since become an important figure in midfield.
This season, he has made 31 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist, according to data from Transfermarkt.
For Al Ahly SC, the pursuit of midfield reinforcements comes amid expected changes in their squad, particularly with the anticipated departure of Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng, who is reportedly set to join Valencia on a free transfer.
The Cairo-based club is keen to rebuild and refresh its midfield options as it looks to maintain domestic dominance and strengthen its continental ambitions in the coming seasons.
Akintola’s potential arrival would add depth, energy, and versatility to Al Ahly’s midfield structure, but with negotiations still in progress, a final decision is expected closer to the summer window.
For now, the situation remains open—but interest from one of Africa’s biggest clubs has firmly placed the Nigerian midfielder in the spotlight as the transfer saga develops.
