Senegalese defender Mor Talla Ndiaye edges closer to Liverpool first team
El Hadji Mor Talla Ndiaye is steadily progressing within Liverpool FC, as the young Senegalese defender continues to integrate into the club’s first-team environment.
The 18-year-old centre-back was included in the extended squad for Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, although he did not make the final matchday selection.
His involvement around the senior setup, however, reflects growing trust from the coaching staff, who have increasingly incorporated him into activities with the group led by Arne Slot.
Since arriving in January from Amitié FC, Ndiaye has been adapting to the demands of English football while gradually becoming familiar with the routines of a top-level professional environment.
His participation in multiple first-team training sessions has allowed him to gain valuable exposure, while also helping him integrate into match preparations alongside more experienced players.
Following the Premier League fixture, Ndiaye returned to Liverpool’s under-21 side for a key playoff encounter against Crystal Palace.
Starting the match, he completed the full 120 minutes in a closely contested game that ended 3-3 before being decided on penalties, with Liverpool ultimately eliminated.
Despite the result, his individual display drew positive feedback. Coach Rob Page highlighted several aspects of his performance, particularly his composure under pressure and his defensive awareness.
“He made some very good tackles at the end of the match, and he knew he was under pressure after his early yellow card. That’s part of his learning process, learning to manage these situations.
I saw a player capable of playing forward, finding midfielders between the lines with his passes. He’s courageous, intelligent in his positioning, and aggressive in duels.
He also wins a lot of aerial duels. There’s a lot of potential to work with him,” the coach explained.
Ndiaye’s ongoing involvement at both first-team and youth levels underlines a development pathway designed to prepare him for higher demands.
Each appearance and training opportunity contributes to his growth, as he continues to build experience within one of Europe’s most competitive football environments.
For the young defender, the progression remains gradual, but each step suggests he is moving closer to establishing himself at the highest level.
