Ghana to host 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after nearly three decades
Ghana has been officially confirmed as the host nation for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a major return of the prestigious youth tournament to the country after almost 30 years.
The announcement was made on Sunday, April 26, 2026, by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, in a post shared on his official Facebook page.

This will be the first time Ghana is staging the competition since 1999, when it was then known as the African Youth Championship. On that occasion, the Black Satellites delivered a strong campaign but finished as runners-up after losing to Nigeria in the final.
Ghana has remained an influential force in the competition over the years, with its most recent triumph coming in 2021 when the Black Satellites secured their fourth continental title.
The 2027 edition is expected to attract Africa’s most promising young footballers, providing a key platform for emerging talents to showcase their abilities on the international stage.
Details regarding host cities, venues, competition dates, and logistical arrangements are yet to be released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The confirmation is being viewed as a significant boost for Ghanaian football, with preparations expected to intensify in the coming months toward delivering a successful tournament.
